NEW YORK – An energy renaissance is underway in the US as domestic energy production continues to expand. Fueled by this growth, energy infrastructure is projected to attract significant investments over the next few years.
To provide investors with exposure to this transformative investment opportunity, Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) today announced the launch of the Goldman Sachs MLP Energy Infrastructure Fund (Class A Share: GLPAX) (the “Fund”) – a strategy that invests in publicly-traded master limited partnerships (“MLPs”) that are primarily engaged in midstream operations including pipelines, transportation, terminals, storage, gathering and processing. The Fund seeks total return through current income and capital appreciation.
"We believe the US energy industry is poised to expand for decades to come. MLPs allow investors to participate in the build-out of energy infrastructure and to benefit from potential capital appreciation and income growth,” said Kyri Loupis, Head of the Energy & Infrastructure Team at GSAM and portfolio manager of the Fund. “We believe MLPs may offer a range of additional attractive investment characteristics, including potential inflation protection and low correlation with other asset classes.1 Our fund seeks to capture the attractive attributes of this asset class with the convenience, liquidity and simplified reporting of a mutual fund."
“Through active management by a highly experienced portfolio team, the Goldman Sachs MLP Energy Infrastructure Fund should be well-positioned to capture many investment opportunities as the MLP sector continues to garner a larger share of investors’ portfolios2,” said Jim McNamara, Managing Director and President of Goldman Sachs Mutual Funds.
GSAM is one of the largest MLP managers based on assets under management, with a strong presence in the sector. The team’s investment process focuses on trends in exploration and production and its resulting implications on energy infrastructure, with top-down sector allocation and bottom-up stock selection.
The Fund invests primarily in MLPs. It is offered in Class A and Class C Shares, both with $1,000 minimum initial investments. It also offers Institutional, Class R and Class IR Shares.
